All About West Virginia Fall Festivals

West Virginia is known for many things like coal mining and Harper’s Ferry. You may not know that West Virginia Fall festivals are a great deal of fun and a part of the state’s culture. Visiting the events is a great opportunity for viewing live music, learning about the state history, and a lot more. There are many festivals in autumn, a very pretty time of year, and some of the celebrations have been around for a great number years.

Preston County Buckwheat Festival began over 70 years ago. Besides carnival rides and livestock shows, there are a plethora of other activities, and Taylor Made and Casey James from American Idol will be performing. The event will be happening September 26 through 29 in Kingwood. Take the entire family out for a great time.

For 37 years West Virginians have celebrated the Mountain Heritage Arts and Crafts Festival. Over a couple of hundred artists and crafters set up their tents and feature their work. The artists and crafters have actually been prejudged and specifically selected for this event so you can be sure they are good. There will also be live bluegrass music, wine and food. Check it out on September 27 through 29 for boatloads of fun.

Back in 1985 farmers needed a way to get help to raise and sell their pumpkins. Out of this need the West Virginia Pumpkin Festival was born and continues to be celebrated every year. Featuring a parade, a bake off, a beauty pageant and more, West Virginia Pumpkin Festival is a celebration both adults and kids will enjoy. October 3 through 6, 2013 is the next event.

The Country Fall Festival at the State Farm Museum is an annual commemoration featuring a tractor pull, a gas and steam engine show, an antique bottle show and more. You can also tour the thirty buildings on the grounds and watch the making of apple butter and apple cider. The Country Fall Festival is being held on October 5 through 6, 2013.

Free street festivals are always fun. The Historic Middleway Day festival will feature pony rides, a petting zoo, live music and more. Really, there is something for every family member at the event. Take a wagon ride, with a guide, thorough the Historic Middleway District and learn about the history there.

The Fall Festival and Antique Fair, held at Prickett’s Fort State Park, is a celebration focusing on foods from the 1700s. You can learn about harvesting, preservation, manners, customs and much more. Enjoy this event all weekend, October 12th and 13th, 2013.

Autumn is a great time for a trip and there is a vast amount of West Virginia Fall Festivals. Some are longer than others but one common thread is the artistic and educational aspect of the events.
